Why would we ever write a page titled "What we can't do"? We wrote this page as a way to poke fun at these topics and to comment regarding hype seen on some web developer websites. Serious business made fun.
What we can't do:
- create customers who aren't there, 1
- create unnatural Google results, 2
- create streams of traffic for your site, 3
- create product materials from absolute nothing, 4
- and yes, there may be some sites that are just too big for us. We haven't ran into any yet. 5
1: The pitch usually contains the famous phrase, "Customers will come pounding at your door". The truth is that people shop for an item because they want to buy (or research) an item. What we can do is help people looking for services you handle to find your services.
2: Search Engines have methods of determining manipulation of search return results. Black Hat SEO/SEM practices can get your website sandboxed from the reputible search engines. See That SEO stuff for further discussion.
3: Yes, Services selling internet traffic are able to get more visitors. But are the visitors they bring the visitors you want? Chances are the answer would be no. Using exit page redirects, pop-unders/pop-overs, or visit exchanges are not the way to get quality traffic. If a viewer visits your page to fulfill a requirement, they are not viewing your page. If a viewer is hi-jacked to your page, they are likey to have negative feelings regarding your site. Traffic will come if there is a reason for traffic to come (Google expresses it as "Content is King").
4: When doing product catalogs we need information. When the contract calls for us to obtain equipment or product photos then we need access to that equipment or product. If the client is to get us photos, then they need to actually send the stuff to us.
5: The limitation here is really the client's financial where-with-all. It takes many millions of dollars to create a website the size and scope as those made by Microsoft, Facebook, or Google. |
